Stacking the Shelves

Another week where I’ve been a bit naughty! I have just adjusted my book budget to take other stuff into account, though, so I had the leeway. Thankfully. I hate failing at any challenge! But first…

For review

Cover of The Philosopher Kings by Jo Walton

It was listed as just a preview excerpt, but what I downloaded seems to be the full file. I am immensely excited about this one. My review of The Just City is actually (finally) going live on Monday!

Bought

Cover of Cruel Beauty by Rosamund Hodges Cover of An Ember in the Ashes by Sabaa Tahir Cover of The Skeleton Cupboard by Tanya Byron

Cover of The Girl With All The Gifts by M.R. Carey Cover of Court of Thorns and Roses by Sarah J. Maas Cover of The Girl at Midnight by Melissa Grey

A friend bought me An Ember in the Ashes to comfort me about the election results! A couple of the others were on sale on Amazon or something like that. Aside from Sabaa Tahir’s book, they’re all paperbacks; for some reason I’m not really in the mood to read on my ereader at the moment, much as I love my Kobo.

Library

Cover of Darwin's Lost World by Martin Brasier Cover of Mariana by Susanna Kearsley

I got a couple of others, but I’ve featured them here before; I just grabbed ’em from the local library while I’m visiting my parents, to reduce the amount of books I had to haul across the country!

Comics

Captain Marvel Thor Silk Ms Marvel

Yay so many comics! Boo that my pull list is now costing me £10 some weeks. Whoops.

  1. I have A Court of Thorns and Roses on my TBR. I also have An Ember in the Ashes on my TBR – but I have heard so many mixed views on it! Happy Reading

    • I love pretty much all Jo’s work, but some of it appeals more than others. I struggled with The Just City initially too. She writes in so many different genres/styles…

  2. I pretend to feel guilty about my book buying but I don’t feel bad at all! I don’t smoke or drink, I don’t go out to pubs or clubs or bingo or anything. I don’t buy bags, clothes, jewellery or perfume. My only expenditure is books and I DON’T CARE!!! *grins*.

    • Heh, I wish I could feel so carefree! But though I’m in the same boat and books are my only indulgence, sprees like this are more than I can really afford.

  3. Awesome haul. Love that cover for The Girl at Midnight. And I so want to read A Court of Thorn and Roses. Even though I am more of a DC fan I do read some Marvel, including X-Men, Hulk, and lately Ms Marvel. I just started reading Ms. Marvel and found it interesting so far, but we see if I continue. But thanks for sharing and hope you have fun with your new reads.

    • I’ve had trouble really getting into DC, so I’m the other way round — there’s a few I follow/ed (Batgirl, The Movement, Batwoman), but mostly I read Marvel.

  4. fantastic collection! Cruel Beauty lives up to it’s title and lovely cover. Read it last month and loved it! An Ember in the Ashes and Girl at Midnight are both on my TBR. Love that comic cover for Thor! I hope you enjoy all these. Happy Reading!
    Here are my newest additions.

Huh, I can’t wait to see your reviews on these books, as I recognize pretty much none of them.

I do love Ms. Marvel, but oof, comics are expensive! Some weeks I try to talk myself into one of their other titles (I’m especially tempted by Spider Gwen, tbh) but since I don’t know how good they are, I don’t really want to spend the money.

    • Quite a few of them have a lot of buzz at the moment! Crossing fingers that they’re good.

Yeaaaah, I know the feeling. I’d be more on the fence if I didn’t have the disposable income. But as it is, I want to tell Marvel ‘hey, those lady comics? yeah, gimme more’, heh.

  6. Wow, fabulous haul! I read both ACOTAR and Ember, and LOVED them both! I really want to read The Girl with all the Gifts too, it sound so good! Hope you enjoy all of these, and have a fabulous week!
