Good morning, folks! Here’s the second part of the great Calgary book haul, featuring all the fantasy books I got! Plus some more review copies, of course.

I’ve been meaning to read Annie On My Mind forever, so yay for getting that. Well, yay to all of them (and thank you to the publishers/publicists).
Read this week:
It hasn’t been a reading week, really, as you can see — I’ve been focusing on replaying Final Fantasy VIII with my wife, which is a different sort of fun!

–Harkworth Hall, by L.S. Johnson. I have a couple of minor quibbles, but I was pretty hooked all the same. 4/5 stars
–The Deeper Genome, by John Parrington. It starts off simple, but it does start delving into stuff I wasn’t very familiar with. Definitely worth reading. 4/5 stars
–The Ghoul King, by Guy Haley. Quinn intrigues me, even though he isn’t outwardly the best person. I need moooore. 4/5 stars
–The Button Box, by Lynn Knight. A lovely survey of women’s fashion through the medium of the family button box. 4/5 stars
–Defy, by Sara B. Larson. The main character is a girl disguised as a boy. Everyone seems to know her secret, though. Meh. 2/5 stars
–The Emerald Planet, by David Beerling. I didn’t expect to love this, but I really did — it’s fascinating stuff. 5/5 stars
–Assassin’s Apprentice, by Robin Hobb. This is a reread, and I’m relieved that I still loved it. 4/5 stars

Sadly, I didn’t love The Tiger’s Daughter! The writing got a bit awkward, although the style was lovely, and it was rather culturally appropriative if that’s something that might bother you.

Such a great bunch of books. I need to read the first in the Alexander series because I saw this one was coming out. I LOVE LOVE LOVE Certain Dark Things. It’s a book I really wish I could read again for the first time. Some very trusted bloggers love Devil’s Call as well so I’m anxious to get to it as well. Have a great week!

So much temptation here! I recently read my first Kristi Charish book and really enjoyed it. I look forward to reading more by her. Voodoo Killings is the start of a new series, isn’t it? A Season of Spells looks so inviting! I am not familiar with that series, but will definitely be checking it out. I have a copy of The Immortals on my shelf, but haven’t yet gotten to it. I’ve heard good things about it. A Long Day in Lychford caught my eye of your review books. So many great sounding books there! I hope you enjoy them all!

I’ve been meaning to read it and I Am Mordred for aaaages, so I’m very hopeful!
I plan to read Certain Dark Things but maybe not to next year! I wasn’t a great fan of The Immortals but more patient readers may well like it! I’m hoping to branch out into a bit more fantasy if I can just find authors like George RR Martin to suit me!
