Or, Stacking the Shelves: The Christmas Edition! I think I’ve probably had similarly large hauls before, but still… I had a very good Christmas, and if I could just tear myself away from my new game (Final Fantasy Theatrhythm: Curtain Call), I’ll show you all the details. Plus my giant literary giraffe, a gift from my dad.
His name is Charles Parker, after Lord Peter’s best friend.
He turns up when you least expect it.
Turn around…
So yeah, that was a Christmas. And this is a haul…
Comics
The first four are from Mum and Dad — and don’t worry, I know it’s the first two feature Cassandra Cain as Batgirl, and the third Barbara Gordon — and the two Saga volumes are from my little sis. <3
Non-fiction
One of you lot recommended me The Trouble with Physics, and Dad got me that and the book on Lucy. The other three came from the Kindle sale.
Pure geekery
Little sister knows me well! Or, you know, remembered what I did some of my master’s work on.
Fiction
That’s a real mix of gifts, sales and randomness.
Audiobooks
I had credits to spend.
I also got a £20 Waterstones gift card, which I’ll be spending today, so watch out for next week’s haul, too… What’s everyone else been getting?!
To answer your last question — nothing. No books. No book vouchers. No literature of any kind. Well, when you’ve as much reading matter still to consume de novo as I do (and you may well have, Nikki) and reduced shelf space to boot there’s little point… But soon, soon.
I don’t think it’d feel like Christmas for me without books…
WOW, Nikki that’s quite a haul! It looks like you’re all ready for COYER now (as if you weren’t before) 🙂 I hope you had a nice Christmas, and that you’ll have time to read those goodies very soon.
I didn’t get that many books this week, I’ve been keeping my credits and my GCs for new releases in 2015 😀
Christmas was lovely, helped by all these books and by the giraffe!
I’m gonna spend ’em now so they’re not on my 2015 unread list — try and give myself a nice fresh start there!
Awesome book haul! Love the Tolkien stuff and Snow Like Ashes looks fantastic. As for me… I got more bookish presents from my family than I was expecting, which is always great!
Happy Reading!
My STS!

I’ve been seeing a lot about Snow Like Ashes, I’m really hopeful! Yay for bookish presents!
I’ve heard great things about Snow Like Ashes! Enjoy your new books! 🙂
Me too, I’m excited to try it! Thanks.
Wow! You’ve done really well this Christmas. I hope you enjoy your new books!
I really have! Now I just need to read all this…
What a great mixture of books you got in this haul! That should keep you going until at least New Year…! Enjoy your books!
Ha! Probably until next New Year at the rate I’m reading at the moment…
My fiance had gotten me The Ocean At The End Of The Lane about a month ago and I still haven’t read it but have heard good things about it. I hope you like it 🙂 and you got Snow Like Ashes. Okay, I need to get that book. Everybody is getting it plus the cover is gorgeous. Check out my STS
I have read it; I like something familiar when I’m listening to audiobooks. I did quite like it! And yeah, I’m hearing such good things about Snow Like Ashes.
Awesome haul! Heraclix & Pomp was a great read, and I have Gladstone and Cogman on my TBR list. Must admit, Sex & Punishment intrigues me as well. LOL
I’ve read the first Gladstone book and liked it a lot, and they have such beautiful covers, too!
Awesome haul! I have a couple of Tanya Huff books but haven’t yet got round to reading it.
I too got an awesome Christmas haul and you can see it here: http://www.sapphireddragon.com/2014/12/stacking-shelves-christmas-edition.html
Have a great week and happy reading 🙂
I’ve read a few of Huff’s books, I do like them a lot. Thanks for commenting!
Amazing haul! So jealous of your comics. Are they hard copy or in ebook form? Comics here in Australia easily go for about $25 dollars an issue so I have yet to purchase any hard copies. How much are they over there in Wales? Let me know how the Reluctant Yogi goes, the title describes me perfectly.
Hope you had a merry christmas (: x
They’re the TPBs — I normally only get digital copies when I’m getting them an issue at a time (via Comixology). TPBs can be anything up to £25 here, too, and my dad must’ve got the Cassandra Cain issues of Batgirl second hand, so that would’ve been more expensive again. Eek.
Thanks!
“Those Who Hunt The Night” – an oldie but goodie. It has a sequel as well – “Travelling with the Dead.” Vampire stories before vampires went mainstream. Well-written and good for an afternoon’s reading.
I think there’s a whole series, based on what I saw on Goodreads! I picked it up because of a Tor.com recommendation for works that standalone, so I figured it’d be a good place to start.
It’s kinda funny that I didn’t get any books this year. However, my niece did make me a bookmark… so that counts. I’m not much of a console gamer but I do play Guild Wars 2 a lot, so I can understand the distractions that they bring to the table when you have things you need to do but you want to level up your character at the same time.
It wouldn’t feel like Christmas without books, for me! I’m glad I did get books… I love it when people make me bookmarks, too, though!
