Happy New Year! And happy weekend, too.
Books acquired this week
Time for more of my Christmas haul! Part one (with the light novels and some non-fiction) was last week’s post here. I’ll go for the fiction now — and there’s a lot of that too!
So that’s really exciting… and that’s still not all! I also got some more miscellaneous non-fiction:
Aaaaand as if all that wasn’t enough, I’ve used my trade-in credits to get myself the remainder of theĀ Solo LevelingĀ series (light novel version) and the first two volumes of theĀ Omniscient Reader’s Viewpoint manhwa.
Right! That’s everything caught up, so my posts will be back to a more usual number of books, ahaha.
Posts from this week
As usual, let’s do a bit of a roundup of reviews:
- Fantasy:Ā The Incandescent,Ā by Emily Tesh (4/5 stars, “really liked it”)
- Classic crime:Ā Death in Ambush,Ā by Susan Gilruth (3/5 stars, “liked it”)
- Non-fiction:Ā Fabulous Frocks,Ā by Jane Eastoe and Sarah Gristwood (4/5 stars, “really liked it”)
- Poetry:Ā Finding My Elegy,Ā by Ursula Le Guin (3/5 stars, “liked it”)
Plus these non-review posts:
- Top Ten Tuesday: Recent Additions (with some commentary, so not just a repeat of my STS posts!)
- What Are You Reading Wednesday
What I’m reading
I was a busy reader this last week, making sure to reach my goal of reading 400 books in 2025! Here’s a sneak peek at what I’ve been reading and plan to review on the blog sometime soon (eventually):
For this weekend, I’m planning to read more of theĀ Solo LevelingĀ light novel, get a bit further with Adam Aleksic’sĀ Algospeak and… who knows what else!?
Linking up with Reading Realityās Stacking the Shelves, Caffeinated Reviewerās The Sunday Post, and the Sunday Salon over at Readerbuzz.

Your book numbers blow me away! Congrats on making your goal. I’m curious about Wearing the Lion and a few others. Enjoy
Thank you!
I’ve been curious about Wearing the Lion for a while, looking forward to giving it a try!
Wow! You read so many books in 2025. Amazing.
And you sure received a lot of great books this Christmas. Enjoy!

Thank you!
And yes, I was very spoiled, hehe.
You had a great Christmas book haul – you could open your own little library!

I already could, since I probably own ~700 ish books! š Our house is full of bookcases.
āEnshitificationā and āLikeā are both tempting me, and I added them to my list. I have a very specific memory of California kids using ālikeā (or maybe over=using it) in 1983! I wonder if this is the first book about that all-purpose word.

I really want to get round to both of them. Especially Like, because I caaaan find use of that word annoying, but it’s one of those linguistic fillers we use for a reason. I’d just be curious to know why it became so popular for that use.
I didn’t know Ursula Lequin wrote poetry. Glad you liked it.

Yep, she wrote far more than just genre stuff! Really quite versatile, though you see her playing with the same themes again and again.
Enshitification, what a funny word, was on a lot of best books lists at the end of the year. I think people liked it double because of the name. Happy New Year.

I think it’s mostly just a very important topic, and the word is helping people recognise and talk about it!
Cat Dragon was the book on my fall TBR I never made it to and wanted to. I hope to read it this year. Great haul!!
It looks super cute!
400! that is SO GOOD! Wowza congrats. Love all the books you have lined up. I thought the Ancient Witch’s Guide to to Modern Dating was very cute.

Thank you! I’ve been well spoiled, haha.
That’s quite the haul! I’ve got ARC copies of Brigands & Breadknives and Isle in the Silver Sea waiting for me to catch up. š
Yeah, I could’ve requested the Brigands and Breadknives ARC, but I knew I wouldn’t have time. So this works out better and I can take my time!
An awesome haul! Hope you have a good week.

I hadn’t known these existed, so I was very excited! I’m glad my parents got me them for Christmas. Now for a reread of the earlier books!
