Yay, it’s the weekend! It’s too warm here to do much and indeed I’ve deliberately planned a very calm weekend without any scheduled tasks…
Books acquired this week
This week I ended up getting a bunch more volumes of the Solo Leveling manhwa, in part since it was indie bookshop week, and in part because I had some vouchers to use. Plus, on a very different note (and looking a bit funny beside it!) I got an epistolary novel on a whim, as it might be a good one to review for Postcrossing’s blog.
I’m looking forward to reading more of Solo Leveling!

What I’m reading
It’s been a really quiet week, reading-wise, and that’s okay. I’m still decompressing, I think! And there was plenty of work to catch up on now I’m not mid-exams.
Here’s a sneak peek at the books I did finish!
Not bad for a week where I often didn’t feel like reading, really! As for this weekend, no plans, I’ll just follow my whim.

The illustration style on the covers of that series is interesting: reminds me of Japanese manga and other book covers as they have been for decades, but it’s now kind of classic.
Yeah, there’s a lot of commonality, though honestly the style reminds me at times of some Western artists too. Unlike the manga I grew up with and know now, though, the whole thing is full colour, which I really like. It gives it a very different feel!
I’m looking forward to The Correspondent, it’s on my Goodreads list. Nice week of reading!
It’s not my usual genre, but it looks like it might be fun! It’s always nice to try new stuff.
Your new book covers just make me happy. I don’t read books like Solo Leveling but I really love their covers!
I’ve struggled with reading this last week. Partly because of the book I was reading. It’s finished now so I have hope for this coming week.

They do have striking covers, don’t they? And what’s nice is that the art on the inside is very much the same, including colour, unlike some Western comics or even manga.

It’s been a long time since I had one, and I thought I might be kinda lost if I tried it, but nope, it’s been very nice so far!
Your books acquired grabbed my attention as my local librarian is adding much more manga books. I’ve not heard of manhwa, but looked it up. I’ll mention them to him. I’ll be looking for The Book Forger as well! Thank you for sharing new-to-me books and genres!
There’s not much distinction between manhwa and manga, except country of origin, though the style is different in all the manga or manhwa I’ve read!
The Book Forger was quite an interesting one, I enjoyed it a lot.
That is amazing actually, for a week you didn’t feel too much like reading. Lol. On weeks I don’t really feel like reading, I read maybe half of a book! Enjoy decompressing. 🙂
To be honest, most of the reading was last weekend! In the mid-week, I barely picked up a book.

Sometimes it’s hard to judge until the end! Plus, 2/5 is “it was okay” according to the scale I’ve always used, so sometimes it’s more just “turns out it’s not for me” than “it’s bad.” Or, for non-fiction, “it’s kinda limited, but there was interesting stuff”.
A quiet week is a good week. We won’t be doing much with the high heat extremes this week. At least we have AC.

The crazy thing about not being in school is that after a brief feeling of complete happiness I often started in wishing I was back in school. Yes, crazy!

Heh, with this being my fourth degree completed, you can guess I’m much the same.
I made a start on The Correspondent and I’m quite enjoying the way the letters build up a picture. It’s the perfect example of how an epistolary novel can do that.

I got back into it in the last year or so, a bit! Some manhua (Chinese) and manhwa (Korean) as well, now. It’s interesting how much it’s changed since I used to read a lot of manga.
