Good morning folks! Thank goodness, the issue with adding images on my site is fixed now, so I can actually get this post done. It’s been a quiet week, partly because I’ve been in a terrible mood and didn’t want to get anything done…
Anyway, here’s the stack this week.
Received to review:
Bought this week:
Books read this week:
Reviews posted this week:
–War Cry, by Brian McClellan. This felt a little unsatisfying, because it didn’t feel like a whole story. It’s an interesting world, though. 3/5 stars
–The Hobbit, by J.R.R. Tolkien. Read for the comfort of familiarity, and thus as satisfying as ever. 4/5 stars
Other posts:
–Discussion: Regular Features. Do you like joining in on things like Top Ten Tuesday, WWW Wednesday, et al?
–WWW Wednesday. This week’s update on what I’ve been reading.
Out and about:
–NEAT science: ‘Llama vs flu‘. News about a potential innovative vaccine (made with the help of llamas) to beat flu, without the need for new vaccinations every season.
So how’re you all doing? Big plans for the weekend, or just a nice big book?
I’m looking forward to Cardiff Book Talk’s mini-symposium on Ursula Le Guin and the first instalment of the Earthsea saga which is coming up on Monday evening; having read the whole sequence again this year and with my head still aligned with the change in tone in the second ‘trilogy’ I shall have to drag myself back fifty years to Ged’s old world view…
Ooh, how was that event? (So behind on comments…)
Really enjoyable! I took loads of notes so shall be posting a write-up in due course…
I hate crap weeks-it sends me straight to Amazon for book therapy! I have treated myself a little in the Black Friday sales…I mean it would be rude not to! Hope this week is better for you!

Same… 🙂 Books are the best therapy.
Sorry to hear you had a difficult week. Life is fairly quiet over here – slowly getting through my to do list (next up: dentist, ugh) and practising my newly-learned baking skills (main thing I’ve learned: I don’t trust my oven, yay). This week has also involved a very silly roleplay game (part two tomorrow) using a world/system built around daft action flicks, mostly but not exclusively Hong Kong flavoured (I’m playing an archaeologist so the system automatically equips me with a whip). I’m fairly sure this would play out quite differently if there were any blokes playing, but as there aren’t, the dynamic is hilarious: low testosterone, high mayhem, unexpectedly polite pirates. I have been designated the comedy sidekick as I fluffed every roll I made all night. Buckets of fun 😉

Ha, that sounds kind of great!
A Memory Called Empire! I’m so tempted to request that on NetGalley, but my stack of books to review is big enough as it is. I will wait on what you think of it 😀
I… will try and get to it in reasonable time! 😀
