Stacking the Shelves

I seem to have acquired some books this week! Though I’ve still been relatively conservative — my purchases were a novel and a novella, and the other book was bought for me by the wonderful Lynn. I’m still pretty much hanging in there with my resolutions: I’ve read some ARCs, I’m not buying anything on the spur of the moment, and I’m well within my budget. Woooo.

Bought/acquired

Cover of California Bones by Greg van Eekhout Cover of Half-Resurrection Blues, by Daniel José Older Cover of The Awakened Kingdom by N.K. Jemisin

I’ve already read two of the three, too! And I’m a good chunk of the way into California Bones. Good choices, so far. But then maybe I did also purchase a lot of comics…

Thor #1 Thor #2 Thor #3

Operation S.I.N #1 Captain Marvel #11

Lady Thor, Peggy Carter as a heroine, and the new Captain Marvel — how could I resist?

Library

Cover of The Lucifer Effect by Philip Zimbardo Cover of Pieces of Light by Charles Fernyhough Cover of When Life Nearly Died by Michael J. Benton

I didn’t actually find any fiction I wanted this week at the library. Shocking, I know! I’m especially interested in The Lucifer Effect, as I recently reviewed another book by that psychologist (The Time Paradox), and this promises to discuss his most famous and controversial work, that of the Stanford Prison Experiment.

For review

Cover of Will Grayson, Will Grayson by John Green and David Levithan Cover of Shadow Study by Maria V. Snyder Cover of The Salt Roads by Nalo Hopkinson

Eeeee. That’s all I have to say about Shadow Study. Nalo Hopkinson will be good, of course; Will Grayson, Will Grayson should be fun.

Freebie

Cover of Earthrise by M.C.A. Hogarth

I haven’t actually read anything I already have by M.C.A. Hogarth yet, but this was free on the Kobo store, so I thought I’d grab it while I could.

What’s everyone else been getting? Broken your resolutions yet?

    • Kelly Sue DeConnick’s Captain Marvel, for sure. I adore Young Avengers too. Ms Marvel’s kinda fun. Everybody seems to like Matt Fraction’s Hawkeye, but I’m not aaaas big a fan.

  1. I got Shadow Study as well. Seems a lot of people got it this week and I really want to read it now but I got other arcs to read and I’m in the midst of After we Fell by Anna Todd which is going to take me some time to finish. My resolutions went out the door basically by day ten. I was planning to be ahead when it came to blog. I have my reviews mostly up to date but I always wait last minute to schedule which goes against my resolution. At least I haven’t bought any new books aside from the giftcard got I given late last year

    • I’m planning to reread the earlier books first, which means it’ll take me a while to get to it as well! And ah well; you can catch up on your resolutions. Never too late!

  2. Shadow Study!!!!! Eeeee! I’m starting my reread next week and I can’t wait to get to Shadow Study, hopefully I’ll have finished it before publication day 🙂 I’m doing well with my ‘resolutions’, I haven’t bought a single book yet. I think this is the longest I’ve gone so far but I’m expecting book buying withdrawal symptoms to kick in at any time 🙂

    • Yeah, that was my reaction when I was approved for it! I need to hurry up with my reread so I can finish Shadow Study before publication day, too…

I’m definitely getting them. I just got all cranky because I don’t wanna read any of the dozens of books I have here…

OMGS you have Half-Resurrection Blues! *SQUEE* Have you read the Salsa Nocturna book of short stories from him?

Great pick ups this week ^^

    • I’m very interested so far, though it goes into a lot of detail of everything the prisoners and guards did on each day of the experiment. I might end up skimming that a bit!

      Thanks.

  4. I got Shadow Study also this week and that was pretty much my reaction as well 🙂 I managed to finish my current read quicker than expected so i am sneaking in Shadow Study this week cos I can’t wait 🙂

My own resolution with regards to books was to read more so i am already doing werll with that resolution 😛

You can check out what i got this week here: http://www.sapphireddragon.com/2015/01/stacking-shelves-22.html

I LOVED Will Grayson! I actually expected to not like it, but but it was hilarious and wonderful. x) Ohhh, COMCIS! I love comics. I have literally only just started reading them. I want to read some more about girls though. So far everything is very guy-pounding-things heavy. xD
Thanks for stopping by @ Paper Fury!

  6. Ohh, I have heard great things about Will Grayson, Will Grayson! I have it, but I haven’t read it yet. And great job on staying on budget! I fail at that on the regular 😉 Hope you enjoy all the new books!

  7. California Bones sounds really interesting! It’s on my TBR but I’ve yet to come across it in a local bookstore. I found the latest issue of Lady Thor yesterday and was so disappointed they didn’t have issue 1 in stock, either; I’d been wanting to start reading those comics – they look really neat 🙁 I hope you enjoy them and the rest of your new reads!
