Stacking the Shelves

With my book-buying resolutions just coming into force, this might be the busiest Stacking the Shelves post you’re gonna see from me in a while. On the other hand, I am now in charge of acquiring books for my library, so surely it won’t count if I just buy one or two or three for them…

Okay, okay, I’ll be good.

Library books

Cover of Garden Spells by Sarah Addison Allen Cover of Flow My Tears, The Policeman Said by Philip K. Dick Cover of The Relic Guild by Edward Cox

Cover of Otter Country by Miriam Darlington Cover of Badgerlands by Patrick Barkham Cover of The Sins of the Fathers by Lawrence Block

My usual odd mix — I’m not sure why I’m so drawn to nature writing at the moment, but hey, I’ll go with it.

Fiction

Cover of Station Eleven by Emily St John Mandel Cover of The Forever Watch by David Ramirez Cover of Ancillary Sword by Ann Leckie Cover of The Black Chalice by Steven Savile

There were sales! And I still had a voucher! And it wasn’t January yet!

Non-fiction

Cover of The Ancient Paths by Graham Robb Cover of Ashoka by Charles Allen Cover of A History of the World in 12 Maps Cover of Confronting the Classics by Mary Beard

Pretty much all of these were bought with gift vouchers. I’ve read bad things about The Ancient Paths now, but it might be interesting anyway.

Awesome

Cover of Faery Tales by Carol Ann Duffy

Gift from my aunt for Christmas. <3 Look at that pretty cover! I had no idea this was even coming out until just before Christmas, but it’s Carol Ann Duffy, soooo. Yeah. Happy.

What’s everyone else been getting? Been breaking your 2015 bookish resolutions already?

  1. I’ll be interested in your comments on ‘Flow my tears’ as I’ve found Dick quite hard to review, this title and also ‘Ubik’.

I’m planning to read some EF Benson after enjoying the recent TV adaptations of some Mapp and Lucia books. And I’m just halfway through an Eva Ibbotson book I acquired a while ago but have only just got round to.

    • I really need to revisit Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep, as fifteen year old me just found it bizarre and not worth the time.

Neither of those are authors I’ve read!

  2. I have one voucher left to use for e-books (so it technically doesn’t count as spending money as per my goal) but I’m trying to hold off. Some good choices, though; I quite fancy Station Eleven and Ancillary Justice.

    • Haha, I like the technicalities of it. I’m probably going to feel the same when I actually have vouchers! I really need to get on with reading Ann Leckie’s work; I got the second book based solely on other people’s enthusiasm!

That Faery Tales book is GORGEOUS. Seriously, I want to look that up just on cover love. xD I love my library…I use them a lot and half my books come from there. Except it is sad and hard to send favourite books back. I JUST WANT TO ADOPT THEM FOREVER. I don’t think my library would appreciate that though. hehe. xD

    • I’m a member of, er, four libraries? Maybe five? Yeaaah. Bit of an addict. And now I’m on the committee for the community-run library.

So in a way, ALL THE BOOKS ARE MINE.

      Er. The community’s.

But from the city library, I’ve had a couple of books out for two years and counting. I, uh. I’ll read them soon. I swear.
