With my book-buying resolutions just coming into force, this might be the busiest Stacking the Shelves post you’re gonna see from me in a while. On the other hand, I am now in charge of acquiring books for my library, so surely it won’t count if I just buy one or two or three for them…
Okay, okay, I’ll be good.
Library books
My usual odd mix — I’m not sure why I’m so drawn to nature writing at the moment, but hey, I’ll go with it.
Fiction
There were sales! And I still had a voucher! And it wasn’t January yet!
Non-fiction
Pretty much all of these were bought with gift vouchers. I’ve read bad things about The Ancient Paths now, but it might be interesting anyway.
Awesome
Gift from my aunt for Christmas. <3 Look at that pretty cover! I had no idea this was even coming out until just before Christmas, but it’s Carol Ann Duffy, soooo. Yeah. Happy.
What’s everyone else been getting? Been breaking your 2015 bookish resolutions already?
Have you read Block or Dick before? If so, which ones?
Block, no; Dick, I’ve read Do Androids Dream… and Radio Free Albemuth.
Block has three major series; Scudder the alcoholic PI, Keller the pro hitman and the Burgler series. It seems like most people like Scudder most and the Burgler least but for me it’s the other way round…
I might have to check out the others…
I’ll be interested in your comments on ‘Flow my tears’ as I’ve found Dick quite hard to review, this title and also ‘Ubik’.
I’m planning to read some EF Benson after enjoying the recent TV adaptations of some Mapp and Lucia books. And I’m just halfway through an Eva Ibbotson book I acquired a while ago but have only just got round to.
I really need to revisit Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep, as fifteen year old me just found it bizarre and not worth the time.
Neither of those are authors I’ve read!
The Relic Guild really caught my attention for some reason, Nikki.
I hope you’ve had a really good holiday season. And that you’ll enjoy all your new books.
Have a great weekend. Happy New Year and happy reading.
Mine too, I just spotted it on the shelf and thought I’d give it a go! We’ll have to see…
You too!
Ooh! I like the cover for Garden Spells. I’ll definitely have to check that one out.
Enjoy it and the others!
Check out my StS and my 12 Days of Christmas Giveaways!
I’ve heard very good things about it, so I’m hopeful. Thanks!
I have one voucher left to use for e-books (so it technically doesn’t count as spending money as per my goal) but I’m trying to hold off. Some good choices, though; I quite fancy Station Eleven and Ancillary Justice.
Haha, I like the technicalities of it. I’m probably going to feel the same when I actually have vouchers! I really need to get on with reading Ann Leckie’s work; I got the second book based solely on other people’s enthusiasm!
I absolutely love Garden Spells. It so reminded me of Practical Magic which I love dearly. I hope you enjoy your books they look lovely.
It does sound lovely. Thank you!
Ooh I love badgers and not just because I’m a Hufflepuff on Pottermore! I’ve always wanted to see one in my garden as they are so cute! Enjoy your books!
I don’t think I’ve ever seen one in person… foxes, yes, many hedgehogs, yes, but never a badger. Which is odd because they’re so iconic of the British countryside, and I grew up right next to acres of farmland.
Really you need to be out in the fields at dusk for the best chance, I think.
I used to be out there a lot, but I was probably being too noisy to have a chance.
I guess silence, stillness and patience are the requisites for successful wildlife observation! I’ve never had sufficient of the latter to be very successful.
Same!
Sins of the Father looks interesting, and I still have yet to read Ann Leckie’s series but it’s on my TBR list.
Here’s how I Stacked the Shelves this week.
I read it during a car journey today after picking it up yesterday — good crime noir, basically. I still need to get on and read Ann Leckie’s first book too.
All of your books look amazing. I hope you enjoy them 🙂
My STS Post 🙂
Thanks!
That Faery Tales book is GORGEOUS. Seriously, I want to look that up just on cover love. xD I love my library…I use them a lot and half my books come from there. Except it is sad and hard to send favourite books back. I JUST WANT TO ADOPT THEM FOREVER. I don’t think my library would appreciate that though. hehe. xD
I’m a member of, er, four libraries? Maybe five? Yeaaah. Bit of an addict. And now I’m on the committee for the community-run library.
So in a way, ALL THE BOOKS ARE MINE.
Er. The community’s.
But from the city library, I’ve had a couple of books out for two years and counting. I, uh. I’ll read them soon. I swear.
Bahahaha! I’m justifying my obsession with books from the library also! Awesome picks, hope you enjoy them all 🙂
Thanks!
