Happy weekend! I hope everyone who was celebrating had a good Christmas, or indeed any other holiday you might’ve been celebrating!
Books acquired this week
As in previous years, I’m going to split my Christmas haul into a couple of different posts, because it’s a lot! First up, a bunch of light novels (some danmei, some not):
A couple of those are the special editions, too! I got Omniscient Reader’s Viewpoint vol 2 for myself, actually, and promptly devoured it.
Also, I was very pleased to get those two volumes of Solo Leveling — I started the first volume on Christmas Morning, and was absolutely tearing through it, and already beginning to pout about the idea of having to wait to get my hands on the next volumes (if only due to shipping being delayed over Christmas/New Year, since I do have some Bookshop.org credit from trade-ins). Welp, my sister-in-law to be had me covered!
Aaand of course I got a bunch of new non-fiction to read!
Looking forward to digging in. It’s a mix of different themes, as you can see!
Posts from this week
I kept it light this week, in part just to chill out, and in part because I was quite busy with Christmas prep. (I did mostly manage to stay chill with the Christmas prep, due to being quite organised, but Christmas Eve was a bit packed.) Still, there are a couple of reviews to highlight:
- Non-fiction: The Secret Life of Clothes, by Shahidha Bari (1/5 stars, “didn’t like it”)
- History:Â City of Ravens: London, the Tower, and its Famous Birds, by Boria Sax (2/5 stars, “it was okay”)
- Fantasy manhwa:Â Solo Leveling, vol 10, by Dubu (4/5 stars, “really liked it”)
Plus a quick What Are You Reading Wednesday post!
What I’m reading
Since I had time off this week, I did manage to fit in quite a bit of reading around Christmas stuff! Here’s a peek at the books I plan to review on the blog:
As for this weekend… I have a lot of new books to choose from, it’s hard to pick! I’ll at least start by finishing the first volume of the Solo Leveling light novel, I think, and then go from there, but I expect I’ll pick up some new non-fiction.

Merry Christmas! What a nice pile of books I would also have trouble figuring out what to read next.
I’m just going by pure whim I think, ahaha.
Cat Tales looks interesting. The Japanese love to put cats into their lighter fiction, sci fi and fantasy books. I guess cats have a mystique over in the East!
I watched a funny Christmas movie on Netflix – Man vs Baby, starring the guy who plays Mr. Bean. He is as funny as ever.
Have a great new year holiday.

I’m really interested in that one, curious what it covers exactly.
Ahh Rowan Atkinson is just naturally hilarious, I think!
The Viking history looks interesting — I’ve read a few books about that era, and visited the site of a briefly-inhabited settlement in Greenland a few years ago. My favorite book on the subject is The Far Traveler: Voyages of a Viking Woman by Nancy Marie Brown.

I can’t remember if I’ve read that book by Nancy Marie Brown specifically, but I’ve read a couple of hers, they’re really good!
Hope you have a great week!

Wow! You received so many great Christmas book. Good for you. I have friends who still have not managed to convince others that all they really want for the holidays is books!
Enjoy!

Haha, my wife went absolutely ham on my wishlist, and with my sister and her fiancée also buying, and my parents… I was properly spoiled!
Hadrians Wall, Vanished Wales and Food Stories just got added to my Goodreads, Oh, and Cat Tales and Welsh Food Stories too!!

They all look so fascinating!
What a nice bunch of history books. I’love be looking for your reviews of them.
I admire your perseverance at finishing books. If a book is going to rate less than a 3, it becomes a DNF at my house. Ha!

I’m definitely looking forward to digging into them.
I’ve talked a number of times about that, e.g. in this post. Short version: sometimes I just don’t know how I’ll rate a book until I can see it as a whole, sometimes I really want to write a fair review, sometimes I’m curious about a book on a more academic level, etc.
Looks like a fun Christmas haul!
I was very spoiled, hehehe.
What a huge pile of books. I got no books this year, but I did get a Kindle Paperwhite. So now I can read all those books I’ve bought and downloaded for years and have languished since I don’t see them. Ha! Happy New Year!

And that’s not even all of them, ahaha. Not sure how I’ll fit them onto my shelves!
Hope you enjoy all those books! 😀
The eclectic mix of Nonfiction looks great!
Wishing you a wonderful reading week, and a very happy New Year

I’m looking forward to digging in. Have already started, really, hahaha.
I am intrigued by Welsh Food Stories! Have a nice week of reading and Happy New Year!
I’m looking forward to that one! I don’t know a lot about Welsh food and food history, other than picau ar y maen, bara brith and cawl.
Sounds like a nice week! I love that Spinosaurs book! There was a time I was reading all those type of books, getting my hands on any I could! For now I’ll look forward to when you get it read and I’ll see what you think of it. Hope you have a nice week!

I’ll probably be posting the review quite soon since it’s a science-focused book and I don’t have many of those handy! (I like to spread out my review genres a bit and provide variety.) It was good!
Glad you got a nice Christmas haul. Welsh Food stories looks interesting. Happy New Year!

I’m very curious about it, I don’t know a lot about Welsh food history, really!
What a great book haul! I am keen to hear more about the foodie books!
Happy New Year!
