Stacking the Shelves & The Sunday Post

Well, it’s been a really good week reading-wise, even if I’ve generally not felt so great. And the cooler weather has been nice! Without further ado, let’s get talking about the important stuff.

Books acquired this week

Here’s the second part of my epic haul from my weekend jaunt with a friend from FFXIV! First up, some more of the non-fiction:

Cover of The Sarpedon Krater by Nigel Spivey Cover of Pyramids by Joyce Tyldesley Cover of Moneta: A History of Ancient Rome in Twelve Coins by Gareth Harney

Cover of Twelve Caesars by Mary Beard Cover of The Last Days of the Dinosaurs by Riley Black

And here’s a couple of the fiction books I got (though this haul really was heavy on non-fic):

Cover of Remarkably Bright Creatures by Shelby Van Pelt Cover of Trent's Last Case by E.C. Bentley Cover of Elusive by Genevieve Cogman

Yep, I know: “what an eclectic mix!” 😀

Next week will mark the last bunch from this haul… just in time for a probable birthday-haul the week after, haha.

Posts from this week

Here’s a quick roundup of the reviews I posted this week:

And other posts:

What I’m reading

Right now, I’m partway through Rebecca Thorpe’s Can’t Spell Treason Without Tea, for the promise of a cosy fantasy. I may follow up with The Spellshop (Sarah Beth Durst), because cosy sounds good for the moment.

And here are the books which I finished this week that I’ll be posting reviews of soon (or already have):

Cover of Standard Deviations: Flawed Assumptions, Tortured Data, and Other Ways to Lie With Statistics by Gary Smith Cover of Trent's Last Case by E.C. Bentley Cover of A Nobleman's Guide to Seducing a Scoundrel by KJ Charles Cover of Turns Out My Online Friend is My Real-Life Boss! by Nmura

Cover of The Sarpedon Krater by Nigel Spivey Cover of Remarkably Bright Creatures by Shelby Van PeltCover of The Last Days of the Dinosaurs by Riley Black

Yep, I know: what a weird/eclectic mix!

Hope everyone’s having a good and bookish week.

    • It can be very, well, cosy! I really enjoyed Legends & Lattes (Travis Baldree), for example, and Can’t Spell Treason Without Tea was pretty fun too.

  1. I’ve been very interested in the roman empire lately since watching Those About To Die; the books you got look really good but I’ll wait for your reviews! I was interested in Standard Deviations when you posted about it before and now I see that you gave it 2/5, which is great because it culls my TBR, but not so great for the book I guess!

    • Oh, I recommend Emma Southon’s books then! I loved A Fatal Thing Happened On The Way to the Forum — the title sounds silly, but she does a great job of discussing what murder was like and what it meant in Roman Britain. I’m really enjoying Moneta too!

    • I enjoyed it! It’s a bit lacking in the references department, though that does help to make it very accessible. I’ll have to write a proper review soon!

  2. Looks like a good list of books! 😀 I haven’t gotten a proper book haul for a long time. It’s probably for the best, though, since I have so many books I haven’t read yet. LOL. Good luck with reading your new books! I hope you like them! Thanks for stopping by my blog!

  3. I always tell myself I will read more nonfiction, but I rarely do. I quite a few that have been lingering for years on my physical TBR shelf. It looks like you picked up some great ones! I hope you are enjoying Can’t Spell Treason Without Tea. I recently picked up a copy of that one and am looking forward to it. I’ve been wanting to read Spellshop also and hope you like that one too when you read it. I hope you have a great week, Nicky!

    • I confess, I have some non-fic books that I thought would be fascinating that I haven’t touched and it’s been a decade, ahaha. But I do love it — I find something so relaxing about non-fiction.

Can’t Spell Treason Without Tea was a lot of fun! I need to grab a copy for my sister too, hehe.
