Well, it’s been a really good week reading-wise, even if I’ve generally not felt so great. And the cooler weather has been nice! Without further ado, let’s get talking about the important stuff.
Books acquired this week
Here’s the second part of my epic haul from my weekend jaunt with a friend from FFXIV! First up, some more of the non-fiction:
And here’s a couple of the fiction books I got (though this haul really was heavy on non-fic):
Yep, I know: “what an eclectic mix!” 😀
Next week will mark the last bunch from this haul… just in time for a probable birthday-haul the week after, haha.
Posts from this week
Here’s a quick roundup of the reviews I posted this week:
- Fantasy: Threading the Labyrinth, by Tiffani Angus (1/5 stars)
- Non-fiction: Standard Deviations: Flawed Assumptions, Tortured Data, and Other Ways To Lie With Statistics, by Gary Smith (2/5 stars)
- Fantasy comic: Dominion vol 2: The Sandman, by Thomas Fenton et al (3/5 stars)
- Classic mystery: Trent’s Last Case, by E.C. Bentley (3/5 stars)

What I’m reading
Right now, I’m partway through Rebecca Thorpe’s Can’t Spell Treason Without Tea, for the promise of a cosy fantasy. I may follow up with The Spellshop (Sarah Beth Durst), because cosy sounds good for the moment.
And here are the books which I finished this week that I’ll be posting reviews of soon (or already have):
Yep, I know: what a weird/eclectic mix!
Hope everyone’s having a good and bookish week.
Linking up with Reading Reality’s Stacking the Shelves, Caffeinated Reviewer’s The Sunday Post, and the Sunday Salon over at Readerbuzz, as usual!
All the nonfic books you selected look so good! I love that you’ve read a few of them already, looking forward to knowing your thoughts on the Last Day of the Dinosaurs specifically 🙂
I quite liked it! I didn’t love the format and the lack of referencing, but it was fun and informative.
Cozy fantasy is something I want to look into. I think I would enjoy it. Have a great week! 🙂
It can be very, well, cosy! I really enjoyed Legends & Lattes (Travis Baldree), for example, and Can’t Spell Treason Without Tea was pretty fun too.
I loved The Spellshop and Remarkably Bright Creatures! I hope you enjoy your reads this week:-)
Tammy @ Books, Bones & Buffy recently posted…Buffy’s Corner 8/11/24 – Looking at the Week Ahead
I’m really looking forward to The Spellshop! It sounds like such fun.
I’ve been very interested in the roman empire lately since watching Those About To Die; the books you got look really good but I’ll wait for your reviews! I was interested in Standard Deviations when you posted about it before and now I see that you gave it 2/5, which is great because it culls my TBR, but not so great for the book I guess!
Oh, I recommend Emma Southon’s books then! I loved A Fatal Thing Happened On The Way to the Forum — the title sounds silly, but she does a great job of discussing what murder was like and what it meant in Roman Britain. I’m really enjoying Moneta too!
That cover for Elusive is so pretty. I hope you have a wonderful week.
They went all out with that cover design, haha. Thanks for dropping by!
I’d love to know more about The Last Days of the Dinosaurs. It might be a good choice for my naturalist group book club.
Glad you are experiencing some cooler weather and that you are feeling better.
I enjoyed it! It’s a bit lacking in the references department, though that does help to make it very accessible. I’ll have to write a proper review soon!
Looks like a good list of books! 😀 I haven’t gotten a proper book haul for a long time. It’s probably for the best, though, since I have so many books I haven’t read yet. LOL. Good luck with reading your new books! I hope you like them! Thanks for stopping by my blog!
I’m the same, but I can never resist a top-up, ahaha.
Nothing wrong with an eclectic mix! I hope you enjoy them all!
Hehe, it just tickles me how often people say it, really! Thanks for dropping by. 😀
One of my goals is to read more nonfiction. Your haul looks fascinating! I hope you’re having a good week.
I’ve found myself reading more and more non-fiction over the years! There’s something so relaxing about it for me.
I always tell myself I will read more nonfiction, but I rarely do. I quite a few that have been lingering for years on my physical TBR shelf. It looks like you picked up some great ones! I hope you are enjoying Can’t Spell Treason Without Tea. I recently picked up a copy of that one and am looking forward to it. I’ve been wanting to read Spellshop also and hope you like that one too when you read it. I hope you have a great week, Nicky!
I confess, I have some non-fic books that I thought would be fascinating that I haven’t touched and it’s been a decade, ahaha. But I do love it — I find something so relaxing about non-fiction.
Can’t Spell Treason Without Tea was a lot of fun! I need to grab a copy for my sister too, hehe.
