Well, folks, it’s been quite the week. No new books, and we’ve been in quarantine after Lisa (my wife) developed some potential-COVID symptoms. We’ve both tested negative now and she’s on the mend, but phew it’s been tiring.
Linking up with The Sunday Post @ The Caffeinated Reviewer and Stacking the Shelves @ Reading Reality & Tynga’s Reviews.
So here’s what I have managed to read (not bad, though they were short!):
Books read this week:
Reviews posted this week:
- The Return of the Earl, by Sandra Schwab. Sweet, but one of the main characters acts in a really untrusting way to someone who doesn’t deserve it, and is constantly cranky for no reason, so that was kind of annoying. 3/5 stars
- The Deep, by Rivers Solomon. An interesting take on a concept explored by others, though I found Yetu’s actions really frustrating. 4/5 stars
- Alike as Two Bees, by Elin Gregory. Very short, but I enjoyed it a lot. I’d look for more work by this author, and I love the way the couple are handled. 4/5 stars
- The Secret Lives of Colour, by Kassia St. Clair. Enjoyable, but more for dipping in and out of.
Other posts:
- WWW Wednesday. A quick update, mostly mentioning the books above.
- Hobbit Birthday. Giveaway still going on! Open worldwide; £50 to spend at Portal Bookshop for one winner, £15 for two others. (It’s possible to figure out a different bookshop if Portal don’t ship to you!)
So that’s me for the week. How’s everyone else doing?
I bought my sister The Secret Lives of Colour a couple of years ago and she loved it. (She trained in colour chemistry.)
I bet if I was more interested in chemistry it’d work better for me, too… as it was, I found it entertaining but not riveting, y’know?
Yeah, it was the perfect choice for her but I thought it was most likely a book with niche appeal only. I haven’t read it myself.
Good news about the negative tests! There are so many nasty bugs around but the fear of the virus is always there isn’t it.
Yep! Especially since the whole ordeal started with an early wake-up on a Sunday morning with her just shaking hard! It was really unsettling. Thanks for dropping by. 😀
Glad to hear results where negative, what a worry though, glad to hear she is feeling better

Yeah, it’s a relief! Thanks for dropping by. 😀
Oh I’m glad tests were negative! That’s a scary thing. Hope you guys are able to have a nice and relaxing weekend.
I’ve been curious about The Deep.

We went stargazing — twice — so that was pretty good, though we didn’t get as much sleep as I’d like! Heh. Thanks for dropping by!
Glad to hear you both are well. Scary stuff. Have a good week.
Definitely not the greatest week! Thanks for dropping by.
Thank goodness your wife tested negative. I hope she’s feeling better from whatever it was. I had to get tested myself a week or so ago after being informed that I was possibly exposed. I, too, was negative thankfully.
At least you got some good reading done last week. Stay safe!

I’m so glad you are both negative, stay well!
Wishing you a great reading week

Thanks! And thanks for dropping by. 😀
I’m glad your wife is okay! That’s scary. I’m isolating too because the toddler is sick, but I doubt it’s COVID. Better safe than sorry though. Have a great week!

Yeah, we quickly got to that point of “well, I doubt it is… but we’d better be safe”. Such a tiring week, since we had to try and isolate from each other… in a tiny flat! Hope the toddler’s better soon. 🙂
