Good morning, folks! Today I’m off to spend the day with my grandparents-in-law until evening, so I might not comment (or comment back) until tomorrow. It’s been a quiet week, really; I worked on reading some difficult stuff, so I haven’t finished nearly as many books as I’d like. As for new books, well… just one ARC, and a quiet week ahead too, I think. But next weekend is my paper wedding anniversary, and we’re celebrating in style by going to Amsterdam to browse their bookshops, so that might well be a busy week for books!
Received to review:
I was going to pass on this one, until I realised that the warrior princess in question is Welsh, and this is set in Wales! You have my attention, sir!
Finished reading this week:
Four stars: Mapping the Interior, The Trouble With Physics, Life on the Edge, American Gods (reread).
Reviews posted this week:
–Ancillary Sword, by Ann Leckie. I appreciated this one more on a reread, just like the first book. A really great trilogy, and this middle book doesn’t disappoint. 5/5 stars
–Bloodshot, by Cherie Priest. I didn’t love this as much as I remembered, but there’s still so much awesome about it. 4/5 stars
–The City of Dreaming Books, by Walter Moers. So much to love about this, particularly the way it bursts at the seams with inventiveness and love of books. 4/5 stars
–Journey to the Centre of the Earth, by David Whitehouse. Not my favourite area of science, but still an interesting diversion. 3/5 stars

So how’re you all doing?
A paper anniversary is a great excuse to buy some books! Wow, I can’t believe it has been a year! I can remember you talking about the wedding coming up. Time is flying way too fast for me at the moment.

I know what you mean — it doesn’t feel like it’s been a year! But it is: exactly a year next Saturday.
Ohhhh A Warrior Princess seems promising!
The girl on the cover makes me think of one of the actress on the Vikings tvshow (I don’t watch it but I’m seeing a lot of it on twitter)!
Indeed! It looked quite generic, until I realised it’s about a Welsh princess!
Your new book looks really interesting. Hope you enjoy it and have a great week.

Looking forward to here what you thought of Mapping the Interior. I’m so behind on all these tor.com novellas, and the problem is they ALL look so wonderfully tempting.
I know, right?! They have such gorgeous perfect covers, and there’s so much innovative writing going on.
Ooh, Interior! I will admit, I didn’t buy that book solely for the reason that I’m a chicken and it was “visceral”. Lol I’m serious. Was it scary or gory much?
Your reads are very good though 🙂

I found it more creepy than scary, if that makes sense, and there was gore, but it wasn’t described much that I can think of, you know? I thought it was pretty good.
I wouldn’t be able to resist a Welsh book, either. I love it when books are set elsewhere than in the US!
Enjoy the rest of your weekend Nikki!
Have a wonderful week and happy reading.

All one of them… 🙂
Happy anniversary and happy book shopping 😉
Thanks! I am sure I will wildly indulge.
Just one ARC is great, especially when it involves Welsh princesses! I saw this one earlier in the week and I’m curious about it… but I have so many ARCs to get through for the August and September months, so we’ll see how that goes. 😀 I hope you enjoy all of your new books!
Have a lovely week, Nikki. =)
