This week’s theme for Top Ten Tuesday is top ten new-to-me authors I read in 2014. Hmmm…
- Katherine Addison (Sarah Monette). If you haven’t noticed how I loved The Goblin Emperor, well, wow.
- Brandon Sanderson. Yep, I know, I’m way behind. But I think The Rithmatist was the first thing I’ve read by him.
- Rainbow Rowell. She can certainly write an absorbing story!
- Francis Pryor. Yes, an odd one out so far, but man, absorbing books about archaeology, how could I not love?
- Richard Fortey. Too bad I managed to read most of his books just in this one year.
- David Quammen. Purely on the basis of Spillover, without even having to think! I’m not sure about getting his book on ebola; I don’t know how much it overlaps.
- Steven Brust. Okay, technically I read a collab of his with Robin Hobb long, long ago, but this year saw my introduction to his solo work.
- Ilona Andrews. Really didn’t expect to like the Kate Daniels books so much, but I do.
- Ngaio Marsh. I need to get back to gorging on these, I think. At least there’s a lot!
- Kameron Hurley. I still haven’t read her non-fiction, but I loved her non-fiction collection.
What about you? Anything you think I’m missing from my life?
I’m not sure I read ten new-to-me authors this year – that’s bad, isn’t it?
Eh, not necessarily? Depends what you’re interested in, doesn’t it?
On reflection, as long as it’s above zero I’m content and I certainly have managed that; Fielding and Thackeray in the novels dept.
I love Sanderson, although I haven’t read THE RITHMATIST yet. His Mistborn series is excellent, if you haven’t given it a go yet. I also really liked both of the Rowell books I’ve read.
Happy TTT!

I do like The Rithmatist; definitely worth a go, though it’s more YA than his other stuff. Which Rowell books have you read?
ATTACHMENTS and FANGIRL. Enjoyed them both, although they’re fairly different from each other. Both contemporary romances, but with completely different characters/situations.

Yeah, I liked both of those too. I think it’s just Landline I haven’t read.
I think Rainbow Rowell was a new-to-me author as well! I read Fangirl by her and enjoyed it. Same for Brandon Sanderson. I’m behind too! I read The Final Empire -the first book in the Mistborn series- and it was absolutely incredible. I need to read all of his books now.
Great list!
I think I heard of Rowell at the end of last year, but Attachments was the firts book I read, and that was maybe February-time? Hmmm. I need to read more of Sanderson’s work.
Rainbow Rowell is amazing, she was almost at the top off my list last year. I’ve also just recently read The Rithmatist, and loved it, so I can’t wait to read more from Sanderson as well. The rest of these authors are new to me, so I’m going to check some of them out. Great list, and thanks for stopping by my TTT earlier. 🙂
Her books are really fun! The Rithmatist is more YA-ish than most of Sanderson’s work, but I do love his work.
Great list! Don’t worry, you’re not far behind at all – I still haven’t read anything by Brandon Sanderson!
Haha, but I have so many on my TBR…
I’m missing almost every author from your list in my life! Ha ha! All are new to me; thanks for sharing!

They’re so very worth it! Especially Katherine Addison.
I’m glad to see Rainbow Rowell on this list. I fell in love with Eleanor & Park when I read it last year.
Great list!
I just bought it for a friend, too! Fingers crossed she likes it. I just need to read Landline now…
Great list! I’ve never read any works from those authors besides Rainbow Rowell (I read Fangirl and didn’t like it. I have yet to read Eleanor and Park though..) I guess I will have to be doing some research on some authors here! Wooh!
Eh, there’s nothing wrong with that. Different things for different people, after all. Hope you enjoy it if you pick up any books by any of these!
Very true. And thanks! Im sure they are great! 🙂 just need a chance to get to the library and I will have to find some books haha
Yeah, I have a feeling I’m gonna be haunting the library for a while after people’s lists this week!
Haha! Fair enough
I have a Sanderson book on my shelf waiting to be read. The Rithmatist sounds like an interesting title though, I’ll have to check it out! Thanks for dropping by on my list.

It’s a lot of fun, though more YA-ish than his other books. Enjoy!
I haven’t read anything by Brandon Sanderson yet, but so many people seem to like his books.
Yeah, I really like his work!
