Hi everyone! It’s time for Stacking the Shelves again. I thought I wouldn’t have a big haul this week, but I did spend my Kobo voucher in the end, and picked up some books at the convention I went to. Oops!
Dead tree books
Patricia McKillip! No one is surprised! Got a compliment at FACTs about my taste in books, hee. Been meaning to read more Eddison for a while, I think I’ve mentioned, and Nova is one that Jo Walton’s spoken highly of. I’ve already read Six Against the Yard, and the review should be up tomorrow.
Ebooks
Wild Cards sounds fun, and I’ve been meaning to read more G.R.R. Martin, so, voila. Infinity Blade: Awakening is based on a game, apparently, but reviews say you don’t need to know the game. And maybe I’ll decide I want to play the game, too!
Aaaand my one review copy, which I think I requested because someone I know gave it a good review:
So what’s everyone else been getting? Comment, link, etc — I always visit your blog in return if you visit me!
I picked up On the Steel Breeze by my favourite contemporary Welsh author, Alastair Reynolds, yesterday…which is bad because I was supposed to be buying things for other people!
Oh, I should get that one! My sister hasn’t bought it yet either, I think, which is odd — she adores his work. (She went to a signing of his in Cardiff with me once and was so nervous, bless.) Enjoy!
Yep, I’m a big Reynolds fan! I attended his signing/reading in Bath last year, where my father tried to embarrass me in front of him by talking about my being scared during Doctor Who episodes. This failed miserably.
Me too! I’m behind on quite a few of his more recent books because I am generally snowed under with books, as you can tell…
Haha, we amused everyone at the Cardiff signing by bickering. That was last year, too.
You’ll probably want to read Blue Remembered Earth before this one, then. I didn’t know you were a fan; do you have Reynolds reviews I can look up?
There’re some on goodreads, but I haven’t read any recently enough to have put reviews up on the blog!
I took a squint – unfortunately they are all rather cursory.
I thought they might be — it’s been a long time. I have Century Rain imminently in my pile for a reread (it’s my sister’s favourite!).
It might be my favourite, too, if you exclude Diamond Dogs, which is novella length. House of Suns would be up there, too.
Oh, so agreed on Diamond Dogs.
And at the reading I was at Reynolds said he didn’t know how to write a horror story!
Such nonsense!
IKR? Horror and grotesquery are his trademarks!
I really will have to start watching Game of Thrones season one…yes I haven’t seen a single episode yet due to a lack of time for TV! I have the first couple of books but want to see the series first. Hope you enjoy your big book haul!
I need to get on with reading the books — my sister’s getting far ahead of me. I won’t say I’m gonna watch the series; I’m really, really terrible at watching TV at the best of times… and now I’m starting a medical secretary course and then a science course with the Open University and just… yikes, heh.
Thanks!
Wow it sounds like a great haul! Happy reading!
Tsuki’s STS
It was, yeah! Thanks.
Fun books! 🙂
Quick question: Sanderson – where should I start? I can’t seem to find anything of his that isn’t a sequel around here physically, and I’m not even sure what I *should* be looking for anyway.
I started with one of his novellas, I think — Legion? But he has a couple of standalones; I enjoyed Warbreaker and I’m enjoying Elantris. I haven’t actually read one of his series yet! Well, except Rithmatist, which is YA and the first in a series. (The reviews for that and Warbreaker are definitely up on the blog if you use the search bar.)
Thank you so much! ♥
I hope you enjoy your new books!

I don’t think I’ve ever heard of these but they look great! Hope you enjoy all of them 🙂
Thanks! I’m hopeful too.
Only heard of the G.R.R. Martin ones, though haven’t heard of that series, looks interesting though! 🙂 Happy reading!
Here’s mine

Yeah, Wild Cards looks like a really interesting series. I love superhero stories. Thanks!
I really like how those two George R.R. Martin covers match up. 🙂 I hope you enjoy your new books!
Yeah, it’s pretty! I didn’t notice until I made the post, somehow… Thanks!
Oh they’re all new to me but Happy reading and enjoy!
Thank you! You too!
The George R. R. Martin ones look interesting, and I really like how those covers match up! I haven’t heard of that Sanderson before though, although it definitely looks good. I hope you enjoy your books. 🙂
I’m quite excited about those — the Wild Cards stories have superheroes! And yeah, the covers are really pretty. Thanks for commenting!
Seriously? I’m going to have to check it out if there are superheroes involved!
Yeah, it’s a sort of X-men concept, with lots of different writers pitching in to write stories in the universe.
That sounds really awesome! I’ll have to keep an eye out for it. 🙂
Hope you enjoy it if you do pick it up!
Awesome haul! My hubby has a few of the George RR Martin books and he loves them. Happy reading!
Hopefully I will, too. Thanks!
I must admit, I haven’t read ANY of the George RR Martin books, but I do want to (fine, at the very least, I want to watch the show). And some of the covers on the other books are quite lovely! Hope you enjoy them all 🙂
Haha, he has written a lot, hasn’t he? It’s so much to get through. Thanks!
I haven’t heard of any of these books but they look interesting! I hope you enjoy them 🙂
Thanks for visiting my STS 🙂
