Stacking the Shelves

It wasn’t going to be a busy week for books. Then there were libraries, and my sister wanted to go to Waterstones, and… yeah. So, as usual, here’s my Stacking the Shelves post!

Fiction (library)

Cover of Death and the Penguin by Andrey Kurkov Cover of More Than Human by Theodore Sturgeon Cover of The Girl With All The Gifts by M.R. Carey Cover of The Islands of Chaldea by Diana Wynne Jones & Ursula Jones

Fiction (bought)

Cover of Jacques the Fatalist and his Master by Diderot Cover of A Widow in Waiting by Anne B. Walsh Cover of Steelheart by Brandon Sanderson Cover of Taste of Darkness, by Maria V. Snyder Cover of Tamburlaine Must Die by Louise Welsh

Non-fiction (bought)

Cover of Marvel Comics: The Untold Story by Sean Howe

Non-fiction (library)

Cover of Life: An Unauthorised Biography by Richard Fortey Cover of The Humans Who Went Extinct by Clive Finlayson Cover of The Examined Life by Stephen Grosz

Comics (bought)

Cover of Marvel's Young Avengers: Alternative Culture Cover of Marvel's Young Avengers: Mic-Drop at the Edge of Time and Space

Comics (library)

Stormwatch by Warren Ellis Cover of DC's Superman: What Price Tomorrow?

That may have got a little… out of hand. Anyway, I’ve read a couple of these already, and I’m partway through a couple more. I’m actually looking forward to the non-fiction book about Marvel quite a bit, but also The Girl With All The Gifts, as someone in a book club I’m in praised it to the skies. And Steelheart I’ve been coveting for a couple of weeks now.

What’s anyone else excited about?

  1. You were busy! I can’t borrow any books at the moment. My local library is temporarily closed down while they wait for a new one to be built somewhere else. The shopping centre next door to it bought them out to expand.

    • A new library opened up near here — or, well, re-opened after refurbishment, which has resulted in me being really quite doomed. *grin* Not that I mind. Boo for libraries being closed, though.

  2. Great haul of books! And let’s face it, is it possible to go to the library/Waterstones without leaving with at least one book? Or is that just me?! You got some great books, I’ve Got Girl With All the Gifts from the library as I’ve been impatiently waiting to read it. Love Diana Wynne Jones, can’t believe there will be no more new books from her. Steelheart is on my Kindle waiting to be read along with another one of his books – I have too many books I want to read right now 🙂

Hope you enjoy them all and happy reading!

    • Yeah, I requested The Girl With All The Gifts on Edelweiss, I think, but never got it. So yay for libraries! And yeah, I’m almost putting off starting Chaldea now… though I do still have some Diana Wynne Jones books from earlier in her career I haven’t read. Too Many Books syndrome…

Thanks! I hope you have a good week.

  3. I haven’t gotten a chance to read anything from Brandon Sanderson but all of his books seem to be on my TBR list. He comes across a really talented writer. Great haul! Happy reading and have a great weekend. 🙂

    • I’ve read one of his novellas, but I think that’s it. I have a whole bunch of his books on the TBR, though. He seems to build really interesting worlds.

      Thanks, you too!

  4. I gotta pick up taste by maria, and Louise ‘ s book looks awesome. Your hauls always introduce me to new authors. I also have Sanderson’s Steelheart, I’ve got to get to it soon. Great haul I hope you enjoy your reads.

    • Maria V. Snyder is always fun, though I haven’t started reading this series yet (I was waiting for it to be complete). I have faaar too many books I need to get too soon… Hope you have a good week!

  5. I love the Healer series! I think I might actually love it more than the Study series, but they’re pretty close. Enjoy your haul. 🙂

  6. Incredible haul, lovely mixed lot. Steelheart looks awesome, I’ve seen a few blogs singing the praises of Brandon Sanderson lately, so I’ll definitely have to check him out. Thanks for sharing and enjoy your new reads.

  7. Wow…It looks like you have a wide variety of book. I haven’t read any of these, but I hope you enjoy all of them.

Thanks for stopping by my STS!!

  8. Look at all of these goodies! The only one I’ve read is Steelheart, and I wasn’t too impressed with it. I hope you enjoy all of your new reads!

    Thanks for visiting my haul.

Haha! Same for me! I avoided the library and I didn’t think I was getting any ARC packages…buuut, the postman proved me wrong. 😉 Still, I got some awesome surprises this week! Loving your haul! I hope you enjoy them all. My StS!
